Part of a chorus we sang from times past goes as follows: “There is a path which no fowl knoweth, the vulture’s eye has never seen, where no throne tree nor thistle growth, no hedge to hinder, completely clean.” A chorus speaking of a place in God wherein nothing neither unclean nor corrupt knows of its existence. This place is a path wherein God’s purpose for His people dwells and by living according to that purpose, we can walk upon the path. On this path, the abominations of the carnal corrupt realm cannot exist because it, the carnal mind, cannot find it. This is a realm of life reserved for God’s people; they abide thereon through abiding in the spirit and following the mind of Christ. Matthew says its gate is narrow and few find it. Matt. 7:14, “Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
With this path speaking of a way of life and few there are who find it, the meaning then is clear that the life lived by most of humankind is not the life God desires and intends for His people. The scripture clearly reveals that humankind, like sheep gone astray, have removed themselves from true life, the life that remains an inheritance for God’s people. Isa. 53:6a, “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, everyone to his own way.” This is speaking of following after a life-style that removes man from that which God ordained for humanity, individually and corporately, to dwell. Living in a world of rebellion, haughtiness, and stubbornness has established a worldwide system of governments that promote many various levels and degrees of life, which in essence is not life at all. It is but a few short spans of breathing, with a few heartbeats, to finally die and go to the grave wherein death continues to feed upon them. Psalms 49:14a, “Like sheep they [foolish] are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them.”
Is this the message of hope and expectation that Christ Jesus left for humanity? Did He not speak continually of, through His death, burial and resurrection, a life far removed from the realm of death and the grave? Was not His warning that while the enemy of God desires to promote a life that steals, kills and destroys, God gives life that is abundant, speaking of a life, which the world cannot give. John 10:10, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy, I [Jesus] have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” This word “abundantly” is a word that speaks of “superabundance, excessive, overflowing, surplus, over and above, more than enough, profuse, extraordinary, above the ordinary, more than sufficient”. Is this not God’s covenant with and for us who have received Him? This is a covenant of abundant life. God’s plan from the beginning was for man’s enrichment and a prosperous, abundant life. However, man in his fall, by disobedience and through the generations of time has built for himself a corrupt, carnal world that entraps the minds and hearts of the people from birth. However, God’s intention, through Jesus, is to recover and restore the Father’s intent. For this cause God clearly, unto those who would be willing to hear, reveals His way to recovery. John 14:6, “Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” This is Jesus declaring that He alone is the truth about God, the door to the very life of God. As such, He reveals truth to humanity and gives unto those who accept and receive Him that abundant life.
From the moment a child is born into this world, the world immediately begins its indoctrination upon the new born. From birth, all five senses are encouraged to exercise themselves to begin its maturing processes with the intention of becoming successful in the place of its ultimate choice. In this process, the areas of its environmental, social, economical, political, educational, and religious influences are encouraged to help make what the child is to become as an adult person and to take a place in society. In all this upbringing, the world’s carnal condition inspires the soul of the child to activate the desires, the emotions, the will, and mind of the world. A person that then stands be it rich or poor, educated or uneducated, liked or disliked, honest or dishonest, profitable to society or criminal in actions, and regardless of its ethnic background, it remains corrupt, carnal, and darkened in all its make-up. It is for this cause that God gave His Son as a sacrifice, which from the fallen state of existence, receiving man might come into the enlightenment of a new birth. Christian and secular psychology, carnal philosophies and religious activities, as most of the world sees it today, is not that for which Christ died. Religion, like man has missed the mark. It has fallen short of God’s purpose. Darkness prevails, but a light is among us.
This light from God has promises of a people who shall enter upon a life-style pathway which carnal man has never seen. These who experience the reality of this wake-up call as it comes from God, they begin to see and know the promises of God’s word. 2 Peter 1:3-4, “As His [Christ] divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceeding great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust”. Does this not speak in terms of the present tense now? The incarnate life of Christ is now available to believers as well as His exceeding great and precious promises that include an entrance into God’s kingdom. These promises are given that we might be sharers of a deep spiritual union with Christ, receiving the blessings and benefits of the relationship. Standing upon these promises, they enable man to renounce and separate himself, with the Holy Spirit’s help, from the corruption that is in the world.
For those who separate themselves unto God, they find the path which carnality has never seen. The few who find it will find the path involves a transition into newness of mind, will, emotions and desires. 2 Cor. 4:18, “While we do not look at the things seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal”. This imparts a new life-style, a new purpose, a new existence that enables man to relate to God. Why, because a Christ-like nature now motivates what he does and is. While all that is of the carnal world is sin, now a new vessel appears, one no longer a part of the worldly system, but a vessel that is born of God. 1 John 3:9, “Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God”. In addition, for this cause man must be born of God. A birth that, while upon the narrow pathway, begins to know the progressive reality of being born of God in spirit, soul and body, a birth which puts the vessel beyond just being forgiven of their passed and daily sins.
The complete experience of this new birth speaks of a nature that cannot sin. It speaks of a birth separated from what took place when born into this corrupt, carnal, sin cursed world. It is not without difficulty that receiving man begins to see the difference between the fallen world and God’s pathway. While the carnal world exists upon a nature of loving self, the pathway of God has the foundation of loving as God loves. When man walks upon this pathway, the knowledge of love becomes his understanding, as he becomes that one being born of God. In this love, man begins to know God and therein loves all that is of God. 1 John 4:7, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and anyone who loves is born of God and knows God.” The results of this God like love are that the enabler enables man to overcome the world. Is this not God’s will and purpose? 1 John 5:4a, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world.”
God’s delight is that a people, called by His name and purpose will rise up from this carnal world of darkness to become the manifestation of His light, His life. This light from God is a light that enlightens man and separates him from the darkness that covers the earth while establishing God’s kingdom within. These shall cause the complete carnal world will shake; the economical, educational, the political, and the religious orders of darkness shall fall. In the fall thereof, God, unto those who find and walk upon His path, He shall impart peace. Let man affirm, that in God, he shall overcome the world. John 16:33, ‘These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” This inner peace and overcoming position is not of the carnal corrupt world. Though man has established many types of religions, including some who go by the name of Christianity, most of these are simple orders that try to satisfy mans need for a relationship with some kind of a god. However, these orders are far from the true God in that they are the outgrowth of man’s self-image and purpose. Note that God declares in Ezekiel 13:3 a truth, “Thus says the Lord God; woe to the foolish prophets, who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing.” Do the ones spoken of in this scripture minister nothing but that which serves self?
God has left us with an understanding as we relate to Him, which is, that the Adversary would delight in hindering man through fear. From the example given concerning the children of Israel and their possessing of the Promised Land let us note. Deut. 1:8 & 26, “See, I have set the land before you; go in and possess the land which the Lord swore to your fathers. ….. Nevertheless you would not go up, but rebelled against the command of the Lord Your God.” What was the fruit of their rebellion? They were forced to spend thirty eight more years in the wilderness until all who came out of Egypt, save two, died in that wilderness. Again, the word of the Lord came to another generation, rise up, and enter the Promised Land. God’s word to them was to slay all the old inhabitants of the land, leave none alive. Is not this also speaking to humanity today? The old carnal world’s corruptness is to cease and the time has come for God’s people to enter into, possess the land, and walk upon the pathway of God. In possessing the land, which is our body and old earthly carnal make-up, God’s promise remains. Deut. 2:25, “This day I will begin to put the dread and fear of you upon the nations under the whole heaven, who shall hear the report of you, and shall tremble and be in anguish because of you”.
Thus, the people of God shall become the holiness of God in light of their separating into and walking upon God’s pathway. In this, we share God’s holiness by justification through Christ and begin to know the joy and gladness of dwelling in Him. Isa. 35:8-10, “A highway shall be there, and a road, and it shall be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it shall be for others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool shall not go astray. No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast go upon it; it shall not be found there. But the redeemed shall walk there, and the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with singing, with everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.”
