With most of the Christian community declaring and pointing to the Christ’ soon coming, a time when the Christ makes an appearance upon the earth, that is, a coming to, in and through His people. But even as these appearing ones have been and are being prepared for such an appearing, the Word declares that prior to these making an appearance, manifesting their fullness, another truth is to be considered. That is, the coming forth, the revealing of the one which the scriptures call the son of perdition, the man of sin. This son of perdition is be revealed as a coming order, a mind-set which has captivated a large portion of today’s Christian community. II Thess. 2:1-3 speaks loudly, “Now brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day (of His appearing) will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition”. Note this word “coming” as used in the above scripture. It is a word that speaks of “the glorified Messiah’s arrival which will be followed by a permanent residence with His glorified people”. This arrival is a coming to dwell within and among His people, those who have become a part of His body, a manifestation of who He is.
We should note also that prior to the appearing of the Christ, there shall be a “falling away” as the son of perdition is revealed and is to be uncovered. Is it not made clear that from out of the Christian community this order of “falling away” comes? Who and what is this son of perdition? Daniel describes him as, Dan. 7:25, “He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall persecute (wear out) the saints of the Most High, and shall intend to change times and law. Then the saints shall be given into his hand for a time and times and half a time (3 ½ years)”. This above verse speaks of an order of darkness which matures into that place of influence wherein it brings forth extreme resistance against God and all God’s ways. A pointing to the presence of darkness which, proclaiming itself to be the light, it deceives a people. This realm of influence enlarges itself until it proclaims itself to be God and sits down to rule in the temple of God. II Thess. 2:4, “Who (son of perdition) opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God showing himself that he is God”.
We should understand that there are two Greek words used for the term “temple”. First, the Greek word “NAOS” which always is use when speaking of a spiritual temple”. The other Greek word for “temple” is “HIRON” which when used it “designates a literal man-made temple”. What or who is it then when God speaks concerning His temple? I Cor. 3:16-17 and 6:19 states, “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any one defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are. ….Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own”? Therefore as we look back to the scripture in II Thess 2:4 above we can note that the Greek word being used when speaking of the son of perdition sitting in the temple of God is “NAOS”, speaking of a spiritual temple. God himself declares that He does not dwell in temples made by the hands of man so we should understand that this son of perdition is desirous to sit within the same temple God purposes to set in, that is, the temple which man is. Acts 7:48 speaks, “However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands …” Acts 17:24, “God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands”.
What temple is it then that the son of perdition desires to sit in? His major purpose and desire is not to just sit in a man-made building in Jerusalem or any other place. But rather, his foremost desire is to sit where God has purposed to sit, in the heart, the mind of man, to rule over man’s soul. He desires to dwell within man that he might manifest himself through that person. This then speaks of a desire to deceive mankind to receive him into their lives and make him, the son of perdition, their indwelling God. Again we ask this question, how is it that this son of perdition gains inroads into people’s lives? Could it not be that this son of perdition, operating as the carnal nature, desires to motivate the purpose of the soul, which is the mind, the will, the emotions and the desires of that person? Is not the soul typed by the Holy place of God’s tabernacle as shown to the children of Israel? What is it that the son of perdition does? He opposes all that is of God, he exalts himself above all that is called God and show himself to be God. Rom. 8:7, “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God (His nature), nor indeed can be”.
The scripture also shows us that this son of perdition desires to remain hidden. He desires to act liken unto an angel of light, deceiving the people into receiving and abiding in the carnal doctrines of man. This includes man’s religious maneuverings entertained for the purpose of taking God’s place. This son of perdition pretends to be God while he replaced God’s Word with promotions of the carnal mind under the guise of being from God. This son of perdition seeks to deceive man concerning every level of God’s revelational purposes in bringing forth God’s purposed man-child, those called to establish God’s kingdom here on earth. Hidden away, this son of perdition may be to the many, but it shall not remain so. It has already been declared that the Word of God shall be revealed in such a way as to reveal who this son of perdition really is. II Thess. 2:8, “And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming”. God’s revealed Word, being made known to those who are willing to follow Him, and in the following thereof they begin to see the Christ as He is, to then become like Him. I John 3:2, “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed (this the Holy Spirit is accomplishing now through the revealed Word being made known to a people), we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as he is”.
As Christ reveals Himself to a seeking people, we find that the Holy Spirit is actively working to uncover all that the son of perdition has shaped and formed in the makeup of each seeking vessel. This revealing enables judgment to bring forth repentance and a renewing resurrection within the soul. The scripture declares that unto those Spirit filled sons of God; they have been given the right to know increasing changes as they judge themselves according to God’s revealed word. I Cor. 11:31-32, “For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world”. Note also the clarity of scripture which reveals, that in judging ourselves according to God’s revealed word that which the carnal mind produces will not be heir with the true people of God, the true church. Gal. 4:30, “Nevertheless what does the scripture say? Cast out the bondwoman (carnal mind) and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman (true church)”. As we have read in II Thess. 2:8 above, the son of perdition (bondwoman’s son) will be consumed.
Here the question can be asked, how shall this son of perdition be consumed? This son of the carnal mind is speaking of error in doctrine and traditions, it is speaking of all modern day psychology and all self helps, it is speaking of all purpose driven philosophy and the seeker sensitive promotions which rob man of God’s pure Word. These shall be consumed by the spirit of God’s mouth, the breath of God which reveals His pure Word. As a sword, God’s breath, His Spirit and Word slays and consumes all the fruit of the carnal mind, the son of perdition. Rev. 1:16, “He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword”. Eph. 6:17, “And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God”.
Note also in II Thess. 2:8 above this son of perdition is also destroyed with the brightness (the shining forth of truth) of the Lords coming (His presence, His being revealed to the receiving vessels as truth). Where does the Lords presence, His revealing take place? Clarity again is revealed and spoken of as a people, those who shall be glorified, come forth to manifest the Christ and all that He is. II Thess. 1:10, “When He comes, in that day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed”. Here the Word reveals the appearing of a first-fruits people who have spiritually matured into the birthing of God’s throne-room order, the authority and glory of His mighty presence, those standing in God’s Holy of Holies. II Peter 1:19, “So we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts (the soul being changed into the Christ nature)”. This speaks of a people of change, a people with this hope, this calling, which is the Christ being formed in them, the receiving vessels. Christ being formed in this people consumes and destroys the son of perdition who seeks to dwell within God’s place of dwelling in redeemed man. Gal. 4:19, “My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you”. Herein, as scripture declares, that which is perfect comes to do away with all the in-part life-styles of carnal religious minds. I Cor. 13:10, “But when that which is perfect (Christ nature) has come, then that which is in part (man’s ideals mingled with some truth – a little leaven leavens the whole lump) will be done away”.
The truth of God’s Word is that which mankind can rest upon. That is, a people shall overcome the son of perdition. They shall rise up to become the appearing and presence of the Lord as they stand complete as overcomers with Christ. Rev. 2:26-28, “And he who overcomes, and keeps my works until the end, to him I will give power (throne-room authority, the Holy of Holies) over the nations — He shall rule them with a rod of iron. They (nations, individually and collectively) shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels– as I also received from My Father, and I shall give him (the overcomer) the morning star”. This speaks to us of overcomers who destroy the carnal mind, the son of perdition; it speaks of putting an end to all flesh. Its meaning remains clear, the old fallen Adamic man, the carnal mind, the son of perdition which defiles the temple of God (which we are), shall be destroyed within. Again, the question can be asked, when shall these things be? Are they not even now being worked out within a people? A people who are allowing the work of Jesus Christ on the cross to slay self in all its corruption, to become totally submissive to God’s perfect will for each yielded vessel. Rom. 12:1-2, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service, And do not be conformed to the world (carnal nature), but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (putting on the nature of Christ), that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God”. To this God’s people should say, yea and amen.
